From the lyrical elegance of Cécile Chaminade, Lili Boulanger, and Amy Beach to the vivid colors and contemporary perspectives of Jennifer Higdon and Jessie Montgomery, this program reveals the remarkable range and lasting influence of women in chamber music.

This concert invites audiences to discover connections between historical pioneers and today’s leading composers. A reception will follow the performance, offering an opportunity to continue the evening’s conversation and connect with the musicians.

Celebrate the season with an intimate evening of music inspired by reflection, gratitude, and shared traditions. Featuring piano, strings, and woodwinds, this one-hour chamber concert includes selections from Fanny Mendelssohn’s Das Jahr alongside Catherine McMichael’s Hymns of Peace and Hymns of Thanksgiving as well as other chamberworks exploring traditions, family, and holidays.

Warm, lyrical, and contemplative, Gathering in Song offers a meaningful way to welcome the holiday season through music by women composers. A reception will follow the performance, inviting guests to gather with the musicians and continue the evening together.

Landscapes in Brass

Journey through wide-open spaces, rugged peaks, and the spirit of the American West in this intimate one-hour chamber concert. Featuring the bold colors and expressive range of brass alongside the close connection audiences have come to expect from the Up Close series, the program includes Ludmila Yarina’s uplifting Hallelujah for Brass Quintet, Nicole Biunno’s evocative The Mountains Beckon, and Betsy Bright’s spirited Western Suite.

Vivid, adventurous, and full of character, Landscapes in Brass invites listeners to experience music inspired by place, movement, and the natural world. A reception will follow the performance.

Turning Seasons

Women Composer Series Chamber Concert

JUN 10, 2027 • 7 PM | Hasley Chapel, St. Andrew Methodist Church

Welcome summer with an intimate chamber concert inspired by sunlight, movement, and the changing rhythms of the natural world. Featuring piano, flute, strings, and woodwinds, Turning Seasons explores the character of summer while reflecting more broadly on the cycles, colors, and contrasts of the seasons.

The program includes music by Joan Tower and concludes with Nancy Galbraith’s Rustic Breezes, a vibrant work for an expanded ensemble of woodwinds and strings. Rhythmic, energetic, and full of motion, it brings the concert to a lively close with the spirit of warm air and the outdoors. A reception will follow the performance.
